As warmer weather and outdoor activities return to Greater Los Angeles, so do mosquitoes, and with them, the risk of vector-borne diseases. Working year-round behind the scenes, the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District (GLACVCD/District) plays a vital role in protecting the health of nearly six million residents. This year, the District is proud to launch its 2025 summer campaign, “Guardians of Greater LA,” to highlight the essential public health work the District performs year-round. Through rigorous surveillance, targeted control operations, and proactive community outreach, GLACVCD reduces vector populations and prevents the spread of diseases like West Nile virus and Dengue.
“Our District is proud of the service it has been providing to Greater Los Angeles communities over the past seven decades,” said GLACVCD General Manager Susanne Kluh. “Our work has always been grounded in science, driven by innovation, and made stronger through the relationships we’ve built with the communities we serve.”

Mosquito Control is a Shared Responsibility
#TipTossTakeAction

Mosquitoes can lay eggs in the smallest places – even a bottle cap! Look inside your home and yard for anything that can hold water such as vases, buckets, and plant saucers to name a few. Identify all the containers and TIP the water into the grass once a week and TOSS out unused containers or store them to prevent them from collecting water in the future.
Repel, Don’t Swell

Remember to wear insect repellent to protect your health. The CDC recommends using repellents with active ingredients such as DEET, Picaridin, IR3535 and Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. It’s extremely important to wear insect repellent when you travel abroad as well, especially when visiting sub-tropical and tropical regions.
